Eyebrows after chemotherapy: what can be done.

Your scalp hair gets a lot of attention when we talk about chemotherapy. But for many women, the moment that hurts most comes later, in the mirror, when you notice your eyebrows have thinned or disappeared. They were the line that framed your face, that said 'this is me'. Without it, the face looking back can feel, for a moment, like someone else's.

It's a completely normal reaction. Treatment works on cells that multiply quickly, and hair follicle cells are among them — which is why your eyebrows are affected too.

How long it takes and what comes next. For many women, eyebrows start to come back after treatment ends. Sometimes they grow back just as before. Other times they return thinner, lighter, with a slightly different shape — or don't fully return. Each body has its own timeline. What can help. During the months you're waiting, makeup is a gentle friend. And when you're ready, there's a way to restore your eyebrows naturally: hair-like pigmentation (microblading or reconstruction micropigmentation). Fine individual hairs are drawn, one by one, that mimic natural hair. It's not makeup that washes off at night, but it's not permanent either: the result fades gradually and can be refreshed.

The point isn't to look 'the same as before' at any cost. It's to look in the mirror and recognize yourself again.

When is the right time. As a rough guide, reconstruction is usually considered at two moments: before chemotherapy starts, when your eyebrows are still there and can be used as a reference, or at least 6 months after treatment ends.
